Confession time: I used to hate making videos, especially if I had to be on camera. To be specific I didn’t like prepping to be on camera (and I still don’t, but more on that later). If I have a day where I have no zoom calls and no face to face meetings my beauty routine includes combing my hair and applying moisturizer. That’s it. So when I have to be on camera, I need to do my hair, my makeup, make sure the lighting is right, find a non-wrinkled shirt to wear, make sure whatever is on camera behind me is not too embarrassing...that prep is time I could be using doing other things...like actually running my business.

If you've had these same feelings but recognize how powerful video can be for your business, here are some alternative ideas:

Record your desktop

Chances are there is something on your computer that you can show people in order to provide them with value, help them understand what you do, or just entertain them! Some quick ideas:

  • Record a tutorial that will help your audience
  • Show how to sign up for something or where to find something on your website
  • Recommend an online product or service that may be helpful to your audience

Tools you can use:

Create a slideshow

This can be similar to recording your desktop, but instead of showing how to do something, you are providing information or entertainment. Some quick ideas:

  • Featured products
  • Features and benefits of your best service
  • Why your clients need to work with you

Tools you can use:

Narrate something

Make a video of someone or something else but provide a narration over it.

  • Interview with a partner
  • Ask a customer for a testimonial
  • Live event coverage

Tools you can use:

  • Your smartphone :)

Make a video of your hands working

This will require either a tripod or someone to hold your phone or camera for you, but can show some sort of live process. Some quick ideas:

  • Product creation/manufacture
  • Unboxing video

Tools you can use:

Time-lapse video

If there is something happening in or around your office, take a time-lapse video so people can see start-to-finish in a short amount of time. Some quick ideas:

  • Product creation/manufacture
  • Office reno or redesign

Tools you can use:

Got any other great video ideas? I'd love to hear what you've tried!
