Step 1: Upload Your Video to IGTV

Skip to step 2 if your video is already on IGTV.

You might be starting a regular IGTV show, or you could simply be using it as a place to store your videos so they can be repurposed elsewhere. Either way, here is how you add your videos to IGTV.

Mobile

  • Open IGTV:

    • If you already have videos on IGTV, simply go to your profile and tap the IGTV highlight, or;

    • Open the separate IGTV app

    • If you’ve never used IGTV before you’ll need to set it up before you can add a video. See how to do that here (don’t worry, it will only take 2 seconds!)

  • Tap the + icon

  • Select a video from your camera roll (must be between 15 seconds and 10 minutes)

  • Tap next

  • Enter a title and description

  • Tap Post

Desktop

  • Go to you profile

  • Click the IGTV icon under your profile info & highlights

Drawbacks

  1. There are still black bars, but they’re not as bad as you’d get on YouTube.

  2. On desktop: if someone clicks anywhere other than the little ‘play’ button, the video will open in Instagram.

  3. On mobile: if someone clicks anywhere other than the video screen, the video will open in Instagram.

  4. On mobile: the videos occasionally display janky, like shrinking or cutting off the caption (see images below)
