How To Schedule a Facebook Share

category: social media scheduling facebook type: blog

This is one of those blogs that I’m writing because people keep asking me this question time and time again! Facebook doesn’t have a built-in way to schedule shared posts but sometimes for business purposes, we need to do this. Why?

  1. Sharing other people’s content is important - social media doesn’t really work if we don’t share

  2. We don’t want to overwhelm our audience with a bunch of back-to-back posts

The key to this is finding the unique URL to the post you want to share. Read on for instructions for both desktop and mobile.

On Desktop

  • Find the post you want to share. See where it says the time posted? It might look like the image below “September 25 at 7:56am” or “1 day ago” or “53 mins”. You might not realize, but that is a clickable link.

  • Click it!

The post will appear by itself like below. See the long crazy URL in your browser bar? That is the unique URL to this specific post.

  • Highlight the *entire* link

  • Copy the link (it will automatically save to your clipboard)

  • Go back to your business page

  • In the update box where it says “Write something” paste the link. The post preview will show up automatically underneath the update box

  • Delete the big ugly link - this will not delete the shared post from the preview!

  • Write your own caption on why you're sharing this post, why you think it's important, or why you think your audience might like it

  • Scroll down until you see the Publish button

  • Click the drop-down arrow beside the Publish button

  • Click Schedule

  • Select the date and time you want the post to go out

  • Click Schedule

Your scheduled posts can be viewed by clicking “See post” or “Publishing Tools”.

On Mobile

  • Find the post you want to share

  • Tap the “Share” icon

  • Tap “Copy Link” (it will automatically save to your clipboard)

  • Go to your business page

  • Tap the “Publish” icon

  • Paste the link. The post preview will show up automatically underneath the update box

  • Delete the big ugly link - this will not delete the shared post from the preview!

  • Write your own caption on why you're sharing this post, why you think it's important, or why you think your audience might like it

  • Tap the “Continue” button

  • Tap where it says “When will this be published?”

  • Select “Schedule”

  • Select the date/time you want to post

  • Tap “Done”

  • Tap “Schedule”

  • Tap OK

Your scheduled posts can be viewed by tapping “Scheduled Posts”
